Pigments of Gnomonia erythrostoma. Part III. Synthesis of a methyl ether of bisdeoxyerythrostominone

Abstract

The structure of the ring system and the position of six of the seven oxygen functions in deoxyerythrostominone have been confirmed by the total synthesis of (±)-2-acetonyl-3,4-dihydro-6,8-dimethoxy-2H-naphtho[2,3-b]- pyran-5,10-quinone (20). Compound (20) has also been obtained by methylation of a hydrogenation product of erythrostominone.
