Vapour/liquid equilibrium in ethylene + carbon dioxide and ethane + carbon dioxide

Abstract

Isothermal vapour/liquid equilibrium compositions have been determined for the C2H4+ CO2 system, which is known to form a minimum boiling azeotrope. Experimental results were obtained for the 223.15, 243.15, 263.15, 283.15 and 293.15 K isotherms.

All the published isothermal vapour/liquid equilibrium data for the C2H4+ CO2 and C2H6+ CO2 systems have been subject to a thermodynamic consistency test where the liquid phase excess Gibbs free energy, the vapour phase composition and the Henry constant were determined from the boiling point curve. In the thermodynamic consistency test the non-isobaric Gibbs–Duhem equation is integrated using the numerical method of orthogonal collocation.
