Substituent effects in saturated systems. Complex formation between carbonitriles and iodine monochloride

Abstract

Complex formation constants (Kc) between iodine monochloride and a series of acyclic, alicyclic, and bridgehead nitriles have been measured in carbon tetrachloride solution. In addition to expected inductive effects Kc is found to be sensitive to changes in the geometry of cycloalkyl rings.
