Reactions of nitriles. Part VIII. Synthesis of 2,3-dihydroquinolin-4(1H)-ones

Abstract

Cyanoethylation of several substituted anilines has been investigated. The resulting nitriles were hydrolysed to the corresponding acids, which on cyclisation afforded 2,3-dihydroquinolin-4(1H)-ones, whose structures were established on the basis of their spectra.
