Strecker degradation of α-amino-acids with benzil and with benzoin

Abstract

When heated with α-amino-acids to the temperature required for decarboxylation, benzil is converted into 2,3,5,6-tetraphenylpyrazine and benzoin into a mixture of 2,3,5,6-tetraphenylpyrazine and 2,3,4,5-tetraphenylpyrrole.
