Vibrational spectrum of gaseous, liquid, and solid Re2O7

Abstract

The vibrational spectrum of crystalline Re2O7 is discussed from the point of view of a factor-group analysis. The Raman spectrum changes radically on passing from the solid state to the gaseous or liquid states. The changes observed reflect the presence of a monomeric species in the gaseous or liquid state, compared with the polymeric nature of the solid. The spectrum of the Cr2O72– ion is discussed.
