A synthesis of 5-acetamido-5-deoxy-D-lyxopyranose

Abstract

5-Acetamido-5-deoxy-D-lyxopyranose (9), a pentose containing nitrogen as the ring heteroatom, has been synthesised from the readily available benzyl 2,3-O-isopropylidene-5-O-methylsulphonyl-α-D-lyxofuranoside (5) by way of an azide exchange reaction.
