The vibrational spectra of some chloro-complexes of sulphur, selenium, and tellurium in the (4+) oxidation state

Abstract

The vibrational spectra of the following species under a variety of conditions are reported and discussed: MCl4 and MCl4,SbCl5(M = S, Se, Te); TeCl3,AsF6; TeCl4,PCl5; TeCl4,AlCl3; SCl2; S2Cl2; MCl62–(M = Se, Te). Molecular-weight data are given for benzene solutions of TeCl4 and TeCl4,AlCl3. The ultraviolet spectra of solutions of TeCl62– and TeCl4 in propionitrile show the formation of a new species at a mole ratio of 1 : 1. This new species is apparently the TeCl5 ion. Some data are reported for the compounds SeCl4,py2 and TeCl4,py2(py = pyridine).
