The reaction of methylene with 1,1-difluoroethane

Abstract

Reaction of methylene from the photolysis of keten with 1,1-difluoroethane yields activated difluoropropanes both by insertion and by the combination of radicals. In the presence of oxygen the ratios of k(elimination of hydrogen fluoride)/k(deactivation by collision) for difluoropropanes formed by insertion are 1·24 cm. for 1,1-difluoropropane and 19 cm. for 2,2-difluoropropane.
