Abstract

FTIR spectra of FSM-16 mesoporous silica reveal that, contrary to the generally accepted view, walls of the material are not amorphous but contain 6-member silico-oxygen rings, relics of the kanemite structure, as evidenced by the appearance of a band at ca. 620 cm-1, a signature of the kanemite-like cyclic structures.
