Knowledge Transfer and Economic Impact

19 March 2007

The RSC has welcomed the opportunity to comment on the EPSRC's Knowledge Transfer and Economic Impact strategy.  It is recognised that the UK does fall behind many of its global competitors in terms of economic gains from publicly funded research and, as a distributor of public funds, the EPSRC is in a good positions to be involved in future knowledge transfer strategies.

The RSC has stated that the EPSRC must remain firmly committed to funding the best science possible, and that moves to further promote knowledge transfer and economic returns on public funded science must not disadvantage this.  It is also essential that the EPSRC clearly defines and understands its role in the knowledge transfer process and does not replicate those services already available elsewhere.
