IIan Marek

Ilan Marek was born in Haifa, Israel in 1963, educated in France and received his Ph-D degree from the University Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris in 1988 under the supervision of Prof. Jean Normant and Alex Alexakis. In 1989, he was postdoctoral fellow in Louvain-La-Neuve, Belgium with prof. Leon Ghosez and obtained a research position at the CNRS in 1990 (University Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris). After obtaining his Habilitation in Organic Chemistry in 1995 at the same university, he moved to the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology at the end of 1997 where he currently holds a full Professor position. He was awarded the first French Chemical Society-Acros Prize for the best young Chemist (1997), the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Visiting Professor (1997), the Yigal Alon Fellowship (1998), the Salomon Simon Mani Award for Excellence in Teaching (2002), the Michael Bruno memorial Award from the Rothschild Foundation (2002), the prize for excellent young Chemist of the Israel Chemical Society (2003), and recently the Bessel Award of the Humboldt Foundation (2005).?Since 2005, he is holder of the Sir Michael and Lady Sobell Academic Chair.
