Advisory Board
Amit Basak
Current research activities of Dr. Basak's group center around three important areas of bioorganic chemistry: the search for lead compounds of medicinal importance, synthesis of chiral bioactive molecules using chemical and enzymatic catalysis and mapping of functional domains in proteins. Enediyne class of molecules has been chosen for the drug discovery programme. Nucleophilic ring opening of strained systems, metal ion chelation, transannular reaction and photochemical E-Z isomerization have been exploited to trigger the enediynes. Methods have also been developed to synthesize chiral ?-lactams in enantiomeric form employing both chemical as well as enzymatic methods. Awards and Distinctions . Fellow of Academy of Sciences, Bangalore; Recipient of Chemical Research Society Medal; Visiting Professor, Johns Hopkins University, USA; Visiting Professor, University of San Sebastian, Spain; Council member of Chemical Research Society of India
