ChemComm International Symposia

A series of themed international one-day symposia reflecting topical areas of the chemical sciences

2009 ChemComm International Symposium

25 March 2009

The Third ChemComm International Symposium was held in China in February on the subject of Organic Chemistry. With over 700 delegates attending, and key speakers from across the world, the 3 one-day meetings were a huge success.

Third ChemComm International symposium

The Royal Society of Chemistry partnered up with three universities - Peking University in Beijing, Sichuan University in Chengdu, and the Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry to hold each meeting.

Sarah Thomas, editor of ChemComm comments: "The lectures presented during the symposium were of outstanding quality and covered the whole breadth of organic chemistry from transition metal asymmetric catalysis, organocatalysis, mechanistic studies and the synthesis of both natural and non-natural products."

Poster sessions were held at each symposium and poster prizes awarded to the three best posters at each event. The judges commented that all the posters were of extremely high quality which reflected the very high level of chemistry in China. The judging was very difficult and congratulations to the winners: Qiufeng Huang, Tianli Wang, Bi-Jie Li, Mingzheng Huang, Jun-Long Li, Zelian Huang, Shenmiao Feng, Xiao-Na Xu and Jie Wu.

Special thanks to the hosts of this symposium: Professor Jianbo Wang and Dr. Yan Zhang at Peking University in Beijing, Professor Xiaoming Feng and Dr. Xiaohua Liu at Sichuan University in Chengdu, and Professor Kuiling Ding and Dr Fei Liu at Shanghai Institute of Organic Chemistry in Shanghai, who helped to make everyone feel so welcome, and produce an event that was so enjoyable.
