Elections to the Materials Chemistry Division

The Materials Chemistry Division is holding elections for the available positions on MCD Council. Following a restructure there will now be a total of nine ordinary members on MCD Council. Therefore this year there are four ordinary member positions vacant, three positions are tenable for a period of three years and one is tenable for two years. The three people who attract the most votes will be elected for three years and the person with the next most votes will be elected for two years. Next year, three posts will be advertised for election bringing the number of elected members to nine.

Who can stand?

Membership of MCD Council is open to all members of the Division (making them also members of RSC). Academics and industrialists are welcome equally and while we have no quotas of any form, we are keen to encourage a diversity of people to sit on MCD Council.

What's the commitment?

Being a member of MCD Council, you will attend three meetings each year held at RSC's London headquarters in Burlington House. Travel expenses are paid! In addition to attendance at, and participation in, these meetings, we hope you will do what you can to attend and promote MCD activities in the various circles in which you work. MCD is also responsible for setting RSC policy in areas related to materials and nanotechnology and you will be asked for your input into various discussion and response documents that the RSC produces.

What's in it for me?

We hope that as a member of MCD Council you will have ideas and enthusiasm to contribute so that the range of activities and the reach of the MCD continue to develop. This is your chance to influence matters and become involved in steering the direction of the RSC and seeing your suggestions and ideas acted upon.

OK - I'm convinced, what next?

If this has sold it all to you, please download the application form below. You will need the names of a proposer and seconder who are also members of MCD (but not necessarily MCD Council) and a short statement on why you want to join MCD Council. The deadline for the submissions of nominations is 1 May 2009.  The election will be held by post in May 2009 and those elected will take up their positions formally following the RSC's AGM in July 2009.

We hope to have a dynamic election to so please do give it some serious thought and throw your cap into the ring!
