Code of Conduct

In joining the Royal Society of Chemistry, members undertake obligations to the RSC and to the public at large. Their obligations are set out in a Code of Conduct.

The publication gives guidance on, and provides a framework for, professional practice. The advice offered in this publication may be cited in any disciplinary inquiry. The RSC's Disciplinary Regulations and procedures ensure that members maintain high professional standards.

The RSC Framework for Professional Practice, which outlines objectives for the planning, implementation and recording of procedures involving chemicals or chemical processes, may also be a useful reference.

Members who act as editors, authors and referees for RSC publications and for publications of other organisations are expected to adhere to the principles set out in Ethical Guidelines for Publication in Journals and Reviews.

The list of useful references provides information on RSC publications, Government legislation and regulations, and recommendations for best practice.

A copy of the Code of Conduct and Guidance on Professional Practice can be obtained by post from the Secretary to the Ethical Practices Committee.
