Ambassador schemes

Ambassador schemes give undergraduates, postgraduates and postdoctoral researchers the opportunity to work in local schools and colleges.  In doing so, they gain experience of teaching whilst providing support to teachers and acting as role models for pupils.

The key benefits of these schemes are:

• Pupils have positive, enthusiastic role models in their classrooms to offer support with learning and advice on studying.  Ambassadors can help to encourage students who would not consider taking a science degree at university to do so.  They also often make school science more fun and enjoyable.
• Ambassadors have great opportunities to develop key transferable skills and their employability - presentation, communication, time management and teamworking skills.
• Some ambassador schemes give departments the chance to build relationships with local schools to support their recruitment strategies.
• Teachers get subject specific support and in some cases CPD in the form of updated specialist knowledge.
